About

Write, eat repeat

I'm a Sydney journalist specialising in food and travel who has spent nearly 20 years asking questions

I started in news and current affairs, where I learned to file fast, check twice and above all observe. Since 2012 there's been a steady hum of restaurant reviewing underneath it all, and these days I write almost exclusively about food and travel including features, reviews and columns for The AFR, Escape, Gourmet Traveller, Qantas Travel Insider, Food + Wine, Rampart, Broadsheet and more.

I'm also the World's 50 Best Restaurants Academy Chair for Oceania (you can learn more about the Academy here).

The commercial side of my desk makes words for brands: Dan Murphy's, Officeworks, Afterpay, Destination NSW, Destination Canada, Tourism New Zealand and more.

I've never met a microphone I didn't like; so I've also hosted The West Australian Good Food Guide, spoken at food festivals and conferences in Sydney, Bali and Kazakhstan and chaired panels at expos and corporate events.

When I'm not writing I'm usually eating for professional reasons, judging the country's restaurants or speaking to audiences about food and travel. The rest of the time you'll find me planning the next trip or dreaming of my happy place: steamed chicken and veggies on the sofa with bad reality TV.
